How accurate are Google Analytics data?
I had been using Google Analytics and Sitemeter to track visitor stat on my websites since 2 years. Since Google Analytics does not provide live data which Sitemeter provides, and Analytics historical data is better than that of Sitemeter, both the trackers combined served my purpose. Recently I noticed that Sitemeter used to install an Adware which connects to dg.specificclick.net without my consent and since there was no way to block it, I removed Sitemeter from my websites. I don’t know whether it was coincidence or Sitemeter Adware removal effect, my click rates for AdSense Ads started increasing after the removal of Sitemeter!
Because I got rid of Sitemeter, I was deprived of Live Visitor Data and started hunting for other trackers. My websites are hosted on Wordpress, and then I stumbled upon a good tracker plugin called Wassup! But to my surprise, Wassup was showing that my website is having almost double the hits than what Sitemeter and Google Analytics were showing! Since Wassup gives live data and it shows exactly how visitors come to my sites, the data was accurate! All that meant was Google Analytics was giving wrong data which is actually hard to believe considering the track data of Google products. But its a truth anyways.
There was one thing that is common in both Google Analytics and Sitemeter. i.e. both are based on Javascripts and not all browsers have Javascripts enabled by default because javascripts pose security risks. But since the difference was almost double, javascript alone doesn’t explain the delta. If any of you can analyze it, let us know.
